Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, have developed a 3D printing device worn on the ear. By using infrared sensors to track the temperature of the eardrum (also known as the eardrum), the device accurately measures the user's core body temperature in real time, allowing the user to more closely track his or her body condition. This study has been published in ACS Sensors magazine.
The human body core temperature refers to the body's chest, abdominal and central nervous system temperature, that is, the body's internal temperature. It is one of the most important basic medical indicators of fever, insomnia, fatigue, metabolic function and depression.
This wearable device integrates data processing circuitry and a wireless module and therefore has "stand-alone capabilities." Users can wear it in almost any environment and any type of activity. This small device also includes a microphone and an actuator, both of which make the device an "osteoconductive hearing aid." In other words, wearing the device, the user can still hear the sound in the environment.
Finally, a Bluetooth module can wirelessly send core temperature data directly to a bespoke smartphone app, which users or healthcare professionals can track on the app.
To make the device, researchers first used a flexible polyurethane wire 3D to print a suitable user's ear on a substrate incorporating microchannels for liquid metal interconnects. Then they inject the liquid metal into the microchannels and insert the other components into the microchannel slots.
"The use of 3D printing enables the customization of equipment to provide users with more personalized health care," the researchers explained. "By implementing core temperature monitoring - one of the most important medical parameters for primary care Screening tests show that this smart device represents a significant advance in personalized healthcare. "
With the continuous improvement of science and technology, promoters personalize the development of the medical field and provide technical support for people to monitor their health in real time. The 3D printed ear-mounted sensor device developed by University of California researchers can detect the core temperature of the human body in real time, allowing users to more closely track their own physical condition, to a certain extent, reduce the probability of sudden illness.
