New lithium negative battery to improve charge and discharge cycles

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory has successfully developed a new type of lithium anodic electrochemical cell, thereby increasing the number of rechargeable lithium battery charge and discharge cycles. Although older lithium secondary batteries have better storage performance, they have shorter cycle life because lithium batteries are incompatible in their physical and chemical properties. After several cycles, the cathode is prone to breakdown.

The new lithium battery uses electrolyte-compatible materials that are wetted and chemically stable. Dielectric evaporation is low, electrochemical stability is good, thus improving the battery packaging and safety. And this battery can be run at temperatures below 100 ℃, and therefore suitable for motor vehicles, communications and many other aspects.

In addition to having a lithium anode, this new lithium battery includes a titanium disulfide cathode and an electrode made of LIA3F6. The dispenser is coated with a surfactant and contains a special binding formula in the cathode that is compatible with the new electrode. The results show that the cycle life of such batteries is 2 times the best performance of the battery.

Sulfone-based electrolytes, such as 3MeS, are heterocyclic compounds that have been chosen for their dielectric strength because of their antioxidant and anti-reductive properties compared to the commonly used 2MeTHF electrolyte.

In addition, the electrolyte also has a lower melting point, higher boiling point, so the use of a wider temperature. But at the same time they are extremely polar and do not make the dispenser non-polar material wet. Therefore, in the dispenser surface to be coated wow Lynn or silicon - B drunmafen filer as a surfactant. These materials allow the electrolyte to wet the dispenser without affecting the electrode's stability.

In order to improve the mechanical stability of the cathode, an ethylene-polyvinyl chloride copolymer was used as a binder to replace the polytetrafluoroethylene used in the past. Sulfone compounds need to be added to maintain their wettability due to the dielectric fluid's inability to damp the material.
