Tibetan barley new species rich in β-glucan

Xia Xiaolin, deputy director of the Institute of Agricultural Research of the Tibet Agricultural and Pasturing Academy of Sciences and a researcher of barley crop research, found that the content of β-glucan in the young Qinghai clams of the “Tibet Youth 25” is as high as 8.62% after the study of 75 barley varieties in Tibet. In the past 10 years, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences conducted a scientific and systematic study on the nutritional value of Tibetan barley crops, and completed the analysis of β-glucan content in 75 Tibetan indica varieties. The “Hydrox beta-glucan extraction technology and functional food development” project is also listed as a national agricultural science and technology achievement transformation project.

According to experts from the Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural Sciences, after testing the 75 barley varieties in Tibet, they found that the average content of β-glucan was 5.25%. Among them, the content of β-glucan in “Tibetan 25” was as high as 8.62%. Strong Kobayashi experts with more than 20 years of research experience in Qinglan believe that the “Tibet Youth 25” is the world’s highest β-glucan content in wheat crops.

According to experts, at present, the biomedical community generally believes that β-glucan has four physiological functions, including bowel cleansing, blood sugar regulation, cholesterol lowering, and immunity enhancement.
