Department of Defense leads the establishment of an advanced robot manufacturing innovation agency

According to reports, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that its 8th manufacturing innovation organization, the Advanced Robot Manufacturing (ARM) Innovation Agency, was established as the 14th manufacturing innovation hub in the National Manufacturing Innovation Network. These centers have jointly helped to revitalize. American manufacturing, and encourage companies to invest in local new technology development. The ARM facility is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and will be headed by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The federal government will invest 80 million U.S. dollars, state and local governments, industry, universities, community colleges and non-profit organizations are committed to investing 173 million U.S. dollars in matching funds. This matching grant reflects the important position of the robotics industry in the United States and its value to American business, academia and local government. The ARM agency will organize the current US fragmented robotics manufacturing capabilities to allow the United States to achieve a better position in global competition. Robots have appeared in a large number of manufacturing environments, but today's robots are generally expensive, have a single purpose for functional customization, are not easily reprogrammable, and are isolated from people for safety needs. Robots are increasingly important for achieving the level of accuracy required for defense and other industrial manufacturing needs, but capital cost and complexity of use have limited SMEs to use this technology.
The mission of the ARM organization is to create and deploy a series of interdisciplinary integrations of various industrial practices and research institutes such as sensor technology, end effector development, software and artificial intelligence, materials science, human-behavior modeling, and quality assurance. Robotics forms a robust manufacturing innovation ecosystem. The ARM organization will focus on the development of a range of technologies, including but not limited to: human-robot collaboration robots, robot control (learning, adaptation, and change of use), smart manipulation, autonomous navigation positioning and maneuvering, insight and perception, testing, verification and validation. ARM is a powerful organization with 123 industrial partners, including aerospace and defense manufacturers - such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Airbus, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Sikorsky, Platt Aviation Systems, GE, United Technologies Research Center, Parker Hanifen, Eaton, PCC Structures, abb, Fanuc, Ingersoll, Yaskawa Electric, Amazon Robotics, Siemens, Rockwell Automation, National Instruments, Westinghouse Electric, Schlumberger Technology, BMW, General Motors, Johnson Deere, HP, Dassault Systemes, STEP Tools, Nvidia, and others. ARM includes 40 academic partners and 64 governmental and non-profit partner partners, including national laboratories, defense agencies, and other manufacturing innovation agencies - such as Los Alamos National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. , Sandia National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, Savannah River National Laboratory, National Defense Processing Manufacturing Center, Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Organization, Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Agency, Advanced Composite Manufacturing Innovation Organization, etc. . The ARM organization will achieve its mission through key technology development and labor training driven by defense and industry. ARM focuses on key industrial sectors - aerospace, automotive, electronics and textiles. The establishment and high-level investment of ARM institutions will make Pittsburgh and CMU the center of a new wave of manufacturing development. Using artificial intelligence technology, autonomous technology, 3D printing and other emerging technologies, enterprises of all sizes can use industrial robots. And let the robot have more features. The new generation of robots has the potential to create a large number of new jobs and fuel economy growth, leading the United States to lead in advanced manufacturing.
